Common questions
When should the Walima be held?
Most scholars say it is held after the Nikah, often after the marriage is consummated, and it may be on the same day or within a few days.
Does the Walima have to be expensive?
No. The Sunnah encourages a Walima within your means. A small meal with family, neighbours and people in need fulfils it.
Can the poor be invited?
Yes, and it is encouraged. The Prophet ﷺ warned against a Walima where only the rich are invited and the poor are left out (Sahih al-Bukhari 5177).
