Qibla bearing from true North
On a phone, the live compass turns the dial as you turn. On a laptop, use the bearing with a real compass, or line it up with the map.
3D globe — your path to the Kaaba
Drag to turn the globe. The gold line is the shortest path over the Earth (a great circle) from you to the Kaaba — the direction you face in prayer.
Your location
Or search any city, town or village in the world:
How to find the Qibla
- Tap Use my location, or search for your city.
- On a phone, tap Start live compass and hold the phone flat, screen facing up.
- Turn slowly until the gold arrow with the Kaaba points straight up to the green marker. The dial turns green when you are facing the Qibla.
- If the reading jumps, move the phone in a figure-of-eight to calibrate, and keep away from metal, magnets and speakers.
The bearing is the great-circle direction — the shortest path over the earth to the Kaaba (21.4225° N, 39.8262° E). That is why, from North America, the Qibla points north-east rather than south-east.
No compass? Use the sun
Choose your location to see where the sun is now compared with the Qibla.
Sun Qibla
When the sun is over the Kaaba
Twice a year the sun stands directly above the Kaaba. At that moment, anywhere it is daytime, the Qibla is exactly towards the sun — the oldest way to check a masjid’s direction.
