Why learn the names of Allah?

The Prophet ﷺ said that Allah has ninety-nine names, and whoever learns and preserves them will enter Paradise (Sahih al-Bukhari 2736, Sahih Muslim 2677). Scholars explain that this means knowing them, understanding their meaning, believing in them and calling upon Allah by them in dua — for example asking Al-Ghafur for forgiveness and Ar-Razzaq for provision.

The list above follows the well-known narration recorded by Imam at-Tirmidhi (Jami’ at-Tirmidhi 3507). Other names of Allah also appear in the Quran and Sunnah, and the English meanings here are short explanations written for Sukon — each name carries more meaning than a few words can hold.
