Step 1

The Arabic alphabet

Tap a letter to hear its name (uses your device’s Arabic voice, if it has one).

Step 3

Everyday duas

Before eating

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ

Bismillah — In the name of Allah.

After eating

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ

Alhamdulillah — All praise is for Allah.

Before sleeping

بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا

In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live. (Sahih al-Bukhari)

When waking up

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ

All praise is for Allah who gave us life after He caused us to die, and to Him is the return. (Sahih al-Bukhari)

Leaving home

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ

In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah; there is no power and no strength except with Allah. (Sunan Abi Dawud)

When you sneeze

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ

Alhamdulillah. Someone who hears you says: يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ — Yarhamukallah, may Allah have mercy on you. (Sahih al-Bukhari)

Step 4

Stories of the Prophets

Prophet Nuh and the Ark

Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him) called his people to worship Allah for many, many years. Allah told him to build a great ship. When the flood came, the believers and pairs of animals were saved on the Ark. Lesson: keep doing good, even when others laugh.

Prophet Ibrahim and the Kaaba

Prophet Ibrahim and his son Ismail (peace be upon them) built the Kaaba in Makkah together, and prayed: “Our Lord, accept this from us.” (Quran 2:127). Lesson: do good deeds for Allah, and ask Him to accept them.

Prophet Yunus and the whale

Prophet Yunus (peace be upon him) was swallowed by a huge fish. In the darkness he remembered Allah and said: “There is no god but You, glory be to You.” (Quran 21:87). Allah saved him. Lesson: never stop making dua.

Prophet Musa and the sea

When Pharaoh chased Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) and his people, the sea was in front of them. Allah told Musa to strike the sea with his staff, and it parted so they could cross safely. Lesson: trust Allah when things look hard.

Prophet Yusuf’s patience

Prophet Yusuf (peace be upon him) was thrown into a well by his jealous brothers, and later sent to prison though he did nothing wrong. He stayed patient and honest, and Allah made him a leader in Egypt. He forgave his brothers. Lesson: be patient and forgive.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the Trustworthy

Even before he became a Prophet, people in Makkah called Muhammad ﷺ “Al-Amin” — the trustworthy — because he always told the truth and kept people’s things safe. Lesson: always be honest.

The 5 pillars of Islam

  1. Shahadah — believing and saying there is no god but Allah, and Muhammad ﷺ is His Messenger
  2. Salah — praying five times a day
  3. Zakat — giving to people in need
  4. Sawm — fasting in Ramadan
  5. Hajj — the pilgrimage to Makkah, for those who are able
