Living Islam every day
A simple guide to a halal life — the five pillars, a day shaped by prayer, halal income without interest, family life and the big moments from Nikah to Janazah.
The five pillars
Shahadah
Belief that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad ﷺ is His Messenger.
Salah
Five prayers every day. Learn how to pray.
Zakat
2.5% of savings above the nisab each lunar year. Calculate.
Sawm
Fasting in Ramadan. Ramadan timetable.
Hajj
Once in a lifetime for those who can. Hajj guide.
A day shaped by prayer
Fajr — start the day with Allah
Wake for Fajr, recite the morning adhkar and a little Quran, even a few verses.
Earn halal
Work honestly. Do not cheat in weight, price or quality. Keep promises and contracts.
Dhuhr and Asr at work or college
Pray on time. A clean corner and a mat are enough; the Qibla finder helps.
Evening with family
Maghrib with the family where you can, the evening adhkar, and time with parents and children.
Isha and rest
Pray Isha and Witr, forgive people before you sleep, and recite the Sunnah of sleep (Ayat al-Kursi and the last three surahs).
Halal income and money
Halal income
Earning from honest work and trade is worship. Avoid income from interest (riba), gambling, alcohol, deception and bribery.
Avoid interest (riba)
The Quran forbids riba. Choose interest-free savings and Shariah-compliant options where you can, and avoid buying on interest-based credit for things you do not need.
Stay out of debt
Spend within your means. If you must borrow, write the loan down, as the Quran teaches, and repay on time. Qard-e-Hasan (interest-free loans) helps people in genuine need.
Give every day
Charity does not reduce wealth. Give Sadaqah daily, even a little; pay Zakat each year when it is due.
Honest trade
Show defects, give full measure, and do not hoard or overcharge in hardship.
Halal food
Eat halal and wholesome food, start with “Bismillah”, eat with the right hand and do not waste.
Good character at home and outside
Parents
Serve and speak gently to your parents; Paradise lies at the feet of mothers.
Neighbours
Look after your neighbours, whatever their faith; share food and help in need.
Speech
Speak the truth, avoid backbiting and gossip, and keep your word.
Cleanliness
Purity is half of faith — keep body, home and street clean.
Online
Share only what is true and kind. Check before you forward.
Health
Your body is a trust. Eat moderately, move every day and sleep on time.
Nikah, Aqiqah, Janazah and your will
Nikah — marriage made easy
Choose for character and faith; involve the families; keep the mahr agreed and the wedding simple. Register the marriage as the law requires.
Aqiqah — welcoming a child
Give the child a good name, shave the head on the seventh day if possible, give silver by its weight in charity, and sacrifice (two animals for a boy, one for a girl, as most scholars teach).
Janazah — when someone passes away
Close the eyes, make dua, inform family, arrange ghusl and kafan promptly, pray the Janazah and bury quickly. Pay the deceased’s debts and fulfil their will.
Wasiyyah — writing your will
Write your will while you are healthy. Up to one third may go to people who do not inherit; the rest follows the shares of inheritance (Mirath). Register or witness it as the law requires.
