Surah Al-Alaq سُورَةُ العَلَقِ

ٱقْرَأْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ1

Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created-

خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ2

Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood:

ٱقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلْأَكْرَمُ3

Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,-

ٱلَّذِى عَلَّمَ بِٱلْقَلَمِ4

He Who taught (the use of) the pen,-

عَلَّمَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ5

Taught man that which he knew not.

كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ لَيَطْغَىٰٓ6

Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds,

أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰٓ7

In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient.

إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجْعَىٰٓ8

Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all).

أَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى يَنْهَىٰ9

Seest thou one who forbids-

عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ10

A votary when he (turns) to pray?

أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ11

Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?-

أَوْ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقْوَىٰٓ12

Or enjoins Righteousness?

أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ13

Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away?

أَلَمْ يَعْلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ14

Knoweth he not that Allah doth see?

كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ15

Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,-

نَاصِيَةٍۢ كَٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍۢ16

A lying, sinful forelock!

فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُۥ17

Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades):

سَنَدْعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ18

We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)!

كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَٱسْجُدْ وَٱقْتَرِب ۩19

Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)!
